Jonathon - Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

CHILDHOOD CANCER – CLOSE TO OUR HEARTS

Jonathon is our 12-year old nephew. He is a smart, handsome, curious, and playful young man – always a joy to be around!

Our family was devasted when Jonathon, then 10 years old, was diagnosed with Unresectable Anaplastic Astrocytoma – a brain tumor. Until that fateful day, childhood cancer was something we had only heard about in the news.

We have been blessed by the care teams and support that Jonathon has received over the past few years. It is truly remarkable. Jonathon is doing great and the prognosis is very positive though carefully monitored every three months. We are very optimistic for a full recovery! Our Jonathon is a wonderful happy kid again and we pray he continues to enjoy his childhood free from the ravages of cancer.

Our family has been relatively lucky thus far! That is not the case for many other families. We now know personally there is much to do in combating and ending childhood cancer for good.

WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT CHILDHOOD CANCER

Through the process, we all learned a lot about childhood cancer. The most surprising fact was how little funding childhood specific cancer research is funded. While millions of dollars are donated to cancer research each year, only a small portion is directed specifically to childhood cancers.

25,000 KIDS THIS MONTH & EVERY MONTH!

Did you know that every two minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer? That means 25,000 kids around the world will hear the words “you have cancer” this month alone.

ATTIC AIR CARES

While childhood cancer has always been a focused cause for Attic Air, but now it is a mission of ours to share what we have learned and encourage others to support childhood cancer research!

SEPTEMEBER IS CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

Families, caregivers, charities and research groups across the United States observe the month of September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. In the U.S., 15,780 children under the age of 21 are diagnosed with cancer every year; approximately 1/4 of them will not survive the disease.
