Fall, it comes so fast!

Daylight shrinks, the winds get cold, and football season kicks off. But before you get ready for indoor hibernation, take some time to prepare your home for winter.

Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Do a roof check. You should be able to do at least a visual inspection of the roof from the ground.
  2. Check the chimney and fireplace
  3. Stock up on firewood
  4. Inspect siding
  5. Clean the gutters
  6. Check water drainage
  7. Reinforce windows and doors
  8. Turn off faucets and store hoses

WAS YOUR HOME COMFY LAST WINTER?

You may also want to think about last winter.  Were there rooms in your home that seemed colder than others? Did it seem like you had the furnace on non-stop to keep it warm? Was your heating bill out of control?

INSPECT YOUR ATTIC

When was the last time you checked your attic insulation? Adequate attic insulation can help keep your home warmer in winter allowing you to run your furnace less and will cut your heating bill by as much as 40 percent.

GREAT TIME TO SAVE ON ATTIC INSULATION

Currently, there is a federal tax credit of up to $500 that can help pay for an insulation upgrade if it is needed.
